Un súper Elvis reaparecía en 1968…

Un Elvis Presley brillante reaparecía en un especial televisivo ante su público en 1968 y muchos años después la TV argentina lo retransmitía. Tuve la suerte de verlo junto a mis padres -qué haría mi viejo viendo a Elvis, no se- siendo un nenito. Ni recuerdo cuál fue el canal que lo emitió, pero esa emisión hizo que me comprara muchos años después una excelente versión de 3 dvds que en pocos días, quedará chica ante la magnitud de lo que está por aparecer este 30 de noviembre que viene.

Sony celebrará el Comeback Special de Elvis Presley en un set de edición de lujo de siete discos, que se lanzará a fines de noviembre.

El especial de televisión en realidad se llamó Singer … presenta a Elvis (la corporación Singer era el patrocinador) y fue rescatado de ser un mal asunto (con The King cantando villancicos de Navidad -ay Dios-) por el productor Bob Finkel y el director Steve Binder, quienes se combinaron para producir algo que atraería a un público más joven y ayudaría a actualizar el sonido de Elvis Presley.

La sección realmente memorable del espectáculo fue el Elvis «sentado» (sit down), que lo tenía en el escenario vestido de cuero negro, guitarra en mano, con el guitarrista Scotty Moore y el baterista D.J. Fontana. Esta actuación incluyó tomas en bruto de algunos de los mejores discos de Presley, incluidos ‘That’s All Right’ y ‘Heartbreak Hotel’. Las grandes versiones de ‘Baby, What You Want Me to Do’ y ‘Lawdy, Miss Clawdy’ señalaron el regreso de Presley al rock ‘ n ‘roll, después de años en Hollywood haciendo películas olvidables y dudosas bandas sonoras.

El Comeback Special ’68, como se conoció, se emitió el 3 de diciembre de 1968 y ayudó a revitalizar la carrera de Presley.

El nuevo box set cuenta con cinco CD y dos Blu-ray y recopila todo el audio y el video existentes de la serie, incluido el álbum original, tanto las presentaciones de ‘sit down’ como las de ‘stand-up’, los ensayos y las sesiones grabadas en junio de 1968, incluidas las tomas. El paquete incluye un libro de 84 páginas con la historia contada a través de entrevistas realizadas para el documental de HBO de este año, «El buscador».

Este box especial de Comeback 50 ° aniversario ’68 se lanzará el 30 de noviembre de 2018.
